Ingrained in the Reel Action philosophy, these words to guide by have truly given us an advanced knowledge of our world class fishery.  By forcing us to constantly learn new water and work harder on the water we already know, our knowledge base is always expanding.  On a daily basis we are driven to produce positive fishing results for our clients.  This makes us try different approaches, stay out late and even change locations multiple times in a day if need be.  Below is just such an example.

It was early spring and I had a father-son trip lined up for the day.  We met at 6:30 in the morning and drove to the stream together.  Overnight the air temperature had gone up to 50 degrees.  This is usually a very good thing in the spring time, warming the water and bringing the fishes metabolism up.  Unfortunately this time, the upper stretches of the stream south of us were still lined with a significant snow pack.  So instead of the water warming with the increase in temperature, the water temp actually dropped because of snow melt.  The water also started to rise and become off color.  Moving from stream to stream throughout the morning, we found the water barely fishable but the fish were just not active.  By 2:00pm in the afternoon there was still no fish caught from any of the Lake Erie tributaries we had fished.  Time for a change.  We stopped for lunch and I made a few calls around the area.  The only area that had had no lake effect snow was about two hours away, so off we went eating lunch on the way. 

The stream we started fishing was a Lake Ontario tributary.  With the warmer air temp and no lake effect snow to cool the water, I was counting on the fish to be very active.  We started fishing a run at about 5:00pm and caught two steelhead and a brown trout.  Later at about 6:15pm to dark, we caught eight more beautiful brown trout.  We caught them on the surface swinging streamers and several were near ten pounds.  What a great way to end the day – the clients were thrilled with the fish they caught and truly appreciated us going the extra mile and staying out late to get them into fish.  So instead of a day with no action and disappointment, the guarantee forced us to work harder and think outside the box.  The father and son I had that day have since come out with Reel Action many times and had many memorable days.
