TRANQUILITY

Location:  Tranquility Hill Lodge is located in Behring Point on Andros Island.  It is situated on a bluff overlooking the eastern entrance of the North Bight.

Time of Year:  October through the end of May.

Target Species:  Bonefish

Optional Species:  Sharks, Barracuda, Snapper, Permit and Tarpon.

Fishing:  Tranquility Hill encompasses a vast fishing area – the North, Middle and South Bights and the uninhabited west side.  Comprised of winding channels, creeks and lush mangrove cays, the white sandy flats seem to stretch forever.

Roaming these flats are incredible numbers of bonefish, many averaging 4-6 pounds with plenty of fish in the 7-9 pound range.  The North Bight is also where you will have your best opportunity for an unforgettable ‘double-digit’ bonefish, that is, a fish that weighs over 10 pounds.  So if you have always dreamed of a monster bonefish, this is the best area to accomplish that goal.

Although this is primarily a bonefish destination, there is also a very good tarpon fishery.  The preferred time for tarpon is April and May and they can be found on the west side flats and creek channels of the North, Middle and South Bights.  If you wish to test your skill against a tarpon, be sure to let your guide know the evening before, as he will need to bring extra gas and check weather conditions. There is also an extra fee of $100 per boat/per day ($50 per person) to fish the west side.

Hiring only the top independent guides such as Barry, Deon, Duane, or Charlie Neymour, Benry or Andy Smith and Ray Mackey, Tranquility Hill’s goal is to make sure your fishing experience is everything it can and should be.  All incredibly knowledgeable, patient and personable, the guides at Tranquility are second to none.

Last Trip Summary:  What a great week we had at Tranquility Hill! (January 2008)  The accommodations, the staff, the food – all excellent.  Everyday we had breakfast to order from a broad menu, and each evening we were treated to lobster or ribs or fresh fish from the sea.  Each day after breakfast, we would head down to the dock where our guide for the day would be waiting.  Our guides were fantastic and did a great job of putting us on fish.  We cast to singles and doubles, as well as to large groups of bonefish.  One we saw was a legitimate 15-18 pounds!  Over the course of the week, we fished some beautiful water throughout the North and Middle Bights and made one excursion to the fabled west side.  The trip was well worth it, however with some of the best water close to home we were usually within 15 minutes by boat of the lodge.  During the week we caught and lost some really nice bonefish – one took out line so quick it knotted the fly-line so that it couldn’t pass through the guides.  ‘Snap,’ went that fish and too bad for it was at least a 10-12 pounder!  In the evenings upon returning to the lodge, appetizers would be served and the fishing stories would come out.  Tranquility Hill is a very personable, social lodge, so if you head down there prepare to have a great time, have all your needs met, and of course catch some incredible fish!
