Thinking about heading to Alaska next summer for some fly fishing? We wanted to provide you with some helpful tips that often gets overlooked. The Alaska Airline Visa Signature Credit Card helps you save on flights not only up to Alaska but especially for the round trip flight from Anchorage to Bethel. This flight typically uses 10K to 15K miles points round trip or are typically $225 to $260 dollars per person round trip. Since you are awarded 40,000 miles points after signing up ($75 annual fee) and spending 2K in purchases (hint could be your Alaska trip deposit) these miles cover the cost of three to four people round trip tickets a savings of $675 to $900! Miles roll over from year to year so you can also save them up for a different trip. Friends and family members can also take advantage of the companion ticket which allows two people to fly from the same airport for the price of one with an added fee of $99. Note even if the companion ticket is not offered from your home airport chances are the major airport your connection through (Seattle, Chicago, New York, Newark, Atlanta, LA) is on the list. At Reel Action Alaska Lodge our guides and staff are focused on providing you with a high quality fly fishing experience. With only twelve guests per week our lodge allows for maximum flexiblity to guests fly fishing preferences and we have a wide variety of daily fishing options recommended by our professional guides. Our guides work extremely hard for you and are passionate about providing you with the trip of a lifetime, every time! Entering our 19th year in business, Reel Action Fly Fishing is one of the premier outfitters managing fly fishing operations in both Western New York and Southwestern Alaska. We have over 60 years combined fly fishing experience and our guides have traveled and fly fished in the Great Lakes, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Florida, Alaska, Bahamas, British Columbia, Argentina, Brazil, India, and Thailand.

The Kanektok River is a fly fishing wonderland. Guests that have fished this river before keep coming back because there's no place like it in Alaska! To have such a phenomenal overall fishery on one river in Alaska simply can't be found. The Kanektok (aka Chosen River) is the perfect combination of an excellent salmon fishery where you can catch king, coho, sockeye, chum, and pinks along with beautiful leopard rainbow trout, char (dolly varden), and grayling. The Kanektok is fishable all season long, no fly outs are needed, and you can fish everyday regardless of the weather. Check out our Alaska video filmed on locationor any of our picture galleries by clicking here.

The Arolik River harbors many similarities of the Kanektok in terms of fish species, ease of wading and types of fishable water, and also has a staggeringly prolific amount of fish to water ratio.  The primary difference between the two rivers, is that the Arolik is one third the size of the Kanektok. Flowing out of Arolik Lake, the Arolik River is located four miles south of the Kanektok River, and has long been coveted by the fly fishing community, if only for the fact of it being less accessible than many other rivers. At Reel Action, we are fortunate to fish its tidewaters for chrome bright salmon and strong rainbow trout.  We can also venture another twenty plus miles upriver where there are abundant dolly varden, grayling and resident rainbow trout - not to mention the immense amount of salmon still present as they return to their home waters to spawn.  In addition, the Arolik has many miles of side channels, meandering braids, and tributaries to explore before finally reaching the Bering Sea. Overall, the Arolik is a beautiful little river to fish and something every angler should experience!

Reel Action Alaska Lodge is perfectly situated low in the river system to take full advantage of the excellent salmon fishery. Chrome bright pacific salmon pass by our lodge all day long. Guests enjoy catching chrome bright salmon along with mousing for rainbows, catching grayling on dry flies and enjoying catching char on many different fly patterns. The healthy Leopard Rainbow population are excellent sizes and plentiful with many over 22 inches and some even reaching 30 inches. The diversity of species you can catch combined with easily wadable gravel bars along with many creek channels and braided sections to explore make this fishery one of the best in Alaska! Reel Action also has a special use permit for the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge Wilderness Area where guests enjoy access to over 25 miles of wilderness that contains some of the best mousing action in Alaska! Want to see a rainbow hit a mouse pattern? Then click here and watch a short video! Don't believe us that these rainbows feed heavily on mice? Then click here to read this article compliments of research done by the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge.

We have customized spacious 10 x 12ft and 12 x 12ft heated wall tent cabins with wooden floors and carpeting. These wall tents are super strong, waterproof and can withstand the weather conditions in Alaska. For your comfort we sleep single or double occupancy, with single person and two person tent cabins. You can choose the accommodations you would like and single anglers don't pay extra for a one person tent cabin. The tent cabins are furnished with heaters, a padded cot with quilt and high quality sleeping bag, soft pillows, dresser, lantern, mosquito coil, clean linens for showering, clothes hangers, windows with screening, and plenty of storage room for your luggage and gear. The location of our lodge (1 mile from tide water) was carefully chosen to provide our guests a front row seat to the freshest chrome bright fly fishing action in Alaska. The best holding water to fly fish for fresh run kings, silvers, chums, and pinks is right in front of our lodge.

Conservation and respect for the fishery is a very important principal we teach to guests at Reel Action Alaska Lodge. We are strictly catch and release for all the following fish species; king salmon, rainbow trout, char (dolly varden), and grayling. Please remember these are all wild fish and every fish you release makes a difference to the overall health of the fishery. Proper fish handling techniques when shooting pictures and landing fish are strictly enforced!

Our summer Alaska season at Reel Action Alaska Lodge on the Kanektok River begins in mid June and runs until the end of August. Please scroll down to learn more about our Alaska Lodge on the Kanektok River. We hope to see you in Alaska!
