GREAT LAKES FLY FISHING REPORT
Lake Erie and Ontario Tributaries
Steelhead, Rainbows, and Brown Trout

March 22, 2018

Fly fishing for steelhead and brown trout has been consistent in the major tributaries of Lake Erie and Ontario. Temperatures have been in mid to upper 30's this week with forcasted temps of high 40's next week even reaching 51 degrees on Tuesday. We expect the fishing to continue to be good as a strong fall 2017 run has translated to good numbers of both steelhead and brown trout in the streams. March and early April is a great time of year for combo trips targeting both brown trout along with steelhead. All of April is an excellent time to fly fish for steelhead and in May the smallmouth bass fishing is action packed! The steelhead and brown trout we have been catching are in the 6 to 8 pound range. Last fall we saw a significant increase in numbers of steelhead and brown trout returning across the region. We have been using a variety of techniques and flies to catch steelhead and brown trout including swinging and stripping streamers, egg patterns, woolly buggers and indicator nymphing.

Spring Available Dates: March 28, 29, 30, 31 April 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 , 7, 8, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, 30 May 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10
